Secretary for Education Christine Choi invited to talk about Hong Kong’s high-quality education (27 November 2023)

The Hong Kong Chinese Importers’ and Exporters’ Association (HKCIEA) invited Secretary for Education Christine Choi Yuk-lin to be the keynote speaker of the 10th Political and Business Talk held on 27 November 2023. At the event, Choi spoke of the government’s various policies to optimise education quality in Hong Kong. She also had in-depth exchange with members of the HKCIEA Board.

In his welcome speech, President Pui Kwan-kay pointed out that the Policy Address that the Chief Executive recently released contained a lot of content related to education. Education policies are closely related to the wellbeing of a society. Pui said HKCIEA is pleased that the government is vigorously promoting high-quality education for young people to have better education.

Secretary Choi noted that the government will bring into full play the strengths of Hong Kong’s international, diversified and high-quality education system. It will also make sure the education system is in line with the notion of “developing the country through science and education” while promoting Hong Kong as an international education hub to cultivate and lure more talents. In addition, the Education Bureau will launch patriotic education, with the fundamental mission of nurturing patriots to contribute to the country and Hong Kong. During the interactive session, participating board members enthusiastically exchanged opinions with Secretary Choi on issues such as broadening local students’ horizons in Hong Kong and the brain drain of experienced teachers.

The exchange event was chaired by HKCIEA Vice President and Honorary Secretary Wan Hang-ping. At the end of the meeting, President Pui, together with Wan, presented to Secretary Choi a certificate of appreciation. About 60 people attended the event, including Kennedy Wong Ying-ho, a legislator representing the import-export sector, HKCIEA Vice Presidents Tony Pang Chor-fu, David Ho Chi-ho and Kenneth Chan Kin-nin, and Executive Directors Chu Kwok-kee, Luna Chiu Chung Yuet-king and Sam Chan Chi-cheuk.
